Joanna

Overjoyed. Blissful. Enamored.

6 weeks postpartum

What was the hardest thing you endured during pregnancy or delivery? The hardest thing for me was working 12+ hour shifts in my last trimester. I was sore from being on my feet, tired from not being able to find a comfortable sleeping position at night and just ready to be on maternity leave with my baby. Considering this was the hardest part for me, I consider myself lucky.

What do you wish you knew before delivery but didn't? How good it could be! You hear so many horror stories, but at least for me it was a beautiful experience. I credit this to an amazing nursing staff at Waukesha Memorial Hospital who made me feel completely at ease. I also credit it to having an epidural, which is probably the best medical intervention ever invented in my opinion!

What was something that gave you confidence or hope during the hard times? Knowing my baby would be in my arms eventually and that I was under the care of an incredible obstetrician.

What is a new strength (other than moms being super human) that you found in yourself since becoming a mom? I think breastfeeding is quite amazing. I love being able to bond with my daughter and provide her the nutrients she needs to grow and develop.

How are you? I am doing great! I have a healthy baby, which is all I ever prayed for throughout this journey.

How are you now compared to 1 week postpartum? Sleeping has gotten much better, so that alone has helped me to feel more whole as a person. Amazing how your perspective can change when you are able to get adequate rest
